Mildred W. Pelzer (1889-1985) - Zomers hofje met kippen

Mildred Leonora Weenink. Auburn (Wi) 1889- 1985 Orlando (Fl) Graduated from Montana State Normal School and Pratt Institute. Married Louis Pelzer in 1917 and moved to Iowa City and from that date on signed with Mildred W. Pelzer. Continued her studies with Grant Wood and Marvin Con and began her own painting career. After the death of her husband in 1946, she concentrated on painting, working in Florida, Hawaii, and Iowa before settling in Florida in 1952. In 1962, she travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, Spain, Venice, and Kassel (Germany). The painting is fully signed in the paint and dated 1951. Beautifully arranged in hefty brushstrokes pointillistic captured courtyard with free-range chickens in the sun. Dimensions panel 50 x 40 cm. This auction is dedicated to women artists from old masters to 1945. Artworks by women artists are rare in the classical art period: these brave women had to work against society norms and in an area dominated by men. We want to celebrate them in this special auction on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
