A complete set of damask linen napkins which is getting rare. Napkins were very much " en Vogue " in the 19th and 20th Century and were regularly used. Of late they have made a resurgence, but the problem being that so many had to be abandoned due tov" wear and tear". Thus this set was either never or rarely used. Napkins in the 19th C. and later were often given as marriage gift and the youngly weds were often "bombarded" with these gifts. The design is very Arabesque with large curls and sways. The centre has an oval wreath and has been left without initials which are in one corner. Around the oval wreath are scatterings of snow flakes to fill the empty space. After that are garlands of flora and the napkin is framed with large Arabesque design and joined with "lattice " work. An excellent set.
