DESCRIPTION OF THE BAROLO 'FRANCIA' GIACOMO CONTERNO 2018 Giacomo Conterno's Barolo 'France' is one of the 'big', one of those in front of whom you take off your hat and raise a round of applause. Fineness, complexity, austerity, thickness and elegance weave the texture of this red, invoked by its origin to the nobility. It is no coincidence, in fact, the Barolo is known in the world for being 'the King of wines and the wine of Kings'. In tasting expressions like that of Giacomo Conterno, you can do nothing but agree with the men who coined this epithet. Giacomo Conterno Barolo “Francia” originates from the homonymous vineyard, located south of Serralunga d'Alba. From this area of the denomination come, historically, Baroli who play their characteristics on power, strength and body. They are Baroli of structure and complexity, loaded with expressive intensity but always dedicated to the finesse and class that distinguishes them. The ancient France vineyard has an extension of 14 hectares, dominated by a soil with a predominant limestone composition. The harvest is preceded by a careful selection already carried out in the pruning phase, which has made it possible to leave only one bunch for each shred. Once brought to the cellar, the grapes are softly pressed and the must obtained is subjected to long macerations that can reach a duration of 30 days. The fermentation phase takes place inside Austrian wooden vats without toasting. It is then initiated to refining, inside oak barrels of various sizes, for a period of 48 months. One last stop in the bottle makes it ready for marketing. 'France' Barolo by Giacomo Conterno has a ruby red colour, which turns towards garnet tones. Its scent heralds a complexity to be discovered: cherry, small berries, liquorice, menthy, toasted notes and a leather imprint. In his mouth he affirms a decisive and powerful character, perfectly managed in an attractive charm. Persistence is almost infinite, as is its perspective over time.
