Since 1941, vintages considered of superior quality by the family winemakers, were kept and stored in wooden barrels in the winery cellars. Quinta da Devesa Porto +40 Years White Wine with an average age over 40 years (45 to 50 years). Golden white color, slightly greenish hue. The intense aroma features notes of Madagascar vanilla bean, salted caramel, orange blossom, and the earthy notes of fresh-cut cardboard and cigar box. On the palate is full, fresh, with notes of dried fruits, caramel and spices. Long and mouthful finish. Concentrated and powerful, this is hard to distinguish from a typical tawny at this juncture. The alcohol burbles up a bit, but this generally holds its own in the long run. The complexity is exceptional too. Don't drink it too warm. Notes from Mark Squires: "The style here is acidity and complexity. The tawnies eschew fruitiness in favor of complexity, making even the 10 seem older than it is. Not everyone will prefer that style, but I loved it. It gave these some distinction.
