Martin Fleeson - Op. 183 (1982) Cedar/Indian Rosewood - - Klassisk guitar

For auction, is a Martin Fleeson classical guitar, dated 1982 with rosewood back and sides, cedar top, mahogany neck and ebony fretboard, rosewood binding, and an Access plush lined hard case. The original handwritten invoice by Martin Fleeson and the invoice to the second owner also come with the instrument. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a truly wonderful classical guitar. An excellent example of Martin's work from his best period of making. John Williams (played two Fleesons - one of them is from the same year - before changed to Smallman), amongst many other noted professionals, played and recorded with one of these instruments and the tone and volume are commensurate with a concert artist's requirements. The guitar has age-related wear, and the top has some fingernail marks (see photos). There is a barely visible hairline crack (see photo) - which starts about an inch from the end of the bottom bout and stops at the bridge - repaired by a professional luthier. Otherwise, the guitar is in excellent playable condition and has an excellent all-round concert guitar tone. All work undertaken in building the guitars is done by Martin himself. This includes the design and manufacture of rosettes and purfling, application of varnish, installation and set-up of frets to name a few of the processes that require expert skill to produce quality instruments. Basses are strong and defined, expressing everything from the deep, strong piano-like chimes to the mellow, yet defined warm cello sound. The separation is very good, and the sound is balanced through all the registers. This is also true for the sustain. This is a fine concert instrument with excellent projection i.e. does not diffuse but projects the volume. TOP: Cedar BACK AND SIDES: Indian Rosewood Neck: Mahogany Fingerboard: Ebony Bridge: Rosewood Machine Heads: Landsdorfer Finish: French Polish Scale length: 660 mm Nut width: 52mm
