Gabor Modos (after) - 1982 Budapest - Orchid - lithography, Nude photo Poster - Hungary ussr soviet - 1980‹erne

Gábor Módos is a Hungarian photographer known for his portraits, fashion photography, and artistic nude photography. He wanted to attend an art high school, but since it was in Budapest, his parents didn't allow it. He graduated from the Gépipari Technikum in Szombathely and later obtained an engineering degree there, but his true passion was photography. He attempted to enroll at the Technical University, but due to his brother's defection at the time, he was not admitted. He has been taking photographs since he was 18 years old, starting when he repaired a camera and tried it out. He approached the leader of the Savaria Photo Club to obtain film from Ofotért, as it was not easily accessible at that time. From 1963 to 1967, he worked as a cinematographer at the Savaria Film Studio, producing numerous short films for Vas County, some of which were archived. He held various technical positions until photography became his profession. For a long time, he worked as a photographer at the Agricultural Machinery Research Institute in Gödöllő. Endre Schwanner mentored him and invited him to take technical photographs. During this time, he gained experience in both work and exhibitions, as he produced images for exhibitions and competitions alongside his job. In the late 1960s, he became almost the exclusive photographer for Hungarian singer Zsuzsa Koncz, and his work was featured prominently in the magazine "Ez a Divat." He later worked at the magazine's editorial office as a freelance and staff photographer. He has photographed numerous models from the 1970s and 1980s. Throughout his career, he has worked for factories, export-import companies, publishing houses, and fashion companies, including creating album covers, CD covers, and posters. Módos has been actively involved in professional photography associations since the 1990s, serving in various roles in the Hungarian Association of Photographers and the Hungarian Association of Creative Artists (MAOE). He has served as a jury member in numerous photography competitions and has participated in exhibition openings. In May 2019, an exhibition titled "Gábor Módos 80 Years" opened in Szombathely at the AGORA Cultural Center. The exhibition showcased his life's work, including portraits, fashion photography, and images from Budapest, India, and Egypt. Módos has left a significant mark on Hungarian photography, particularly through his portraits and artistic nude photography. — About Hungarian photo Art Hungarian photo art has a rich and diverse history, with Hungarian photographers contributing significantly to the development of photography as an art form both domestically and internationally. From the early pioneers to contemporary practitioners, Hungarian photo art encompasses a wide range of styles, themes, and techniques. One notable period in Hungarian photo art history is the early 20th century, often referred to as the Hungarian Pictorialist Movement. Pioneered by photographers such as Rudolf Balogh, József Pécsi, and György Klösz, this movement focused on creating artistic, painterly images through techniques such as soft focus, manipulation of light, and alternative printing processes. During the interwar period, Hungarian photography experienced a period of innovation and experimentation, influenced by modernist and avant-garde movements. Photographers like László Moholy-Nagy, André Kertész, and Brassai (Gyula Halász) made significant contributions to the international photographic scene with their innovative compositions, use of light and shadow, and exploration of abstract forms. The post-World War II era saw the emergence of documentary photography in Hungary, with photographers such as Robert Capa and Ernő Vadas capturing the social, political, and cultural landscape of the time. Their powerful images provided insight into Hungarian life during a tumultuous period in history. In the latter half of the 20th century and into the 21st century, Hungarian photo art continued to evolve and diversify. Contemporary Hungarian photographers explore a wide range of themes and subjects, from street photography and photojournalism to conceptual and experimental approaches. Artists like Péter Korniss, Gábor Gerhes, and Márton Munkácsi are among those who have made significant contributions to contemporary Hungarian photo art. Hungarian photo art is celebrated through exhibitions, festivals, and publications both within Hungary and internationally. The country boasts several institutions dedicated to photography, such as the Hungarian Museum of Photography in Kecskemét and the Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center in Budapest, which support and showcase the work of Hungarian photographers past and present.
