The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones. The aim of the song was to raise money for humanitarian aid in Africa, particularly to alleviate the famine in Ethiopia. The list of artists involved in the recording of "We Are the World" was truly impressive, featuring some of the biggest names in the music industry at the time.
