Saint Peter and Saint Andrew, Hand Painted Russian Icon.
Saint Peter is one of the twelve apostles (disciples) of Jesus according to Christianity. He was the first bishop of Antioch and the first bishop of Rome.
In traditional folklore, St. Peter is considered above all to be the guardian of the keys to heaven, which he received after the division of the world with his five brothers - St. Athanasius, St. Elijah, St. Ivan, St. Rangel and St. Nicholas.
Saint Andrew the First-Called is a Christian preacher, the first among the 12 apostles, called to this role personally by Jesus Christ.
He is the brother of Saint Peter and, like him, is a fisherman by trade. It is assumed that before becoming a Christian he was a disciple of John the Baptist.
According to the division of the world (oikumene) which the apostles made among themselves, concerning the places where they would preach, Andrew fell to the vicinity of the Black Sea, including - Asia Minor (highly Hellenized), Georgia (then inhabited by Colchians and Iberians) and Scythia (after the collective name of its population - Scythians).
