A rare finely decorated Yixing clay vase with applicated dragons chasing pearls of wisdom amoung clouds, above crashing waves done in different colored clay on a sand colored slip covered Zisha Hongni (red) base. The clays used in the detailed applications are: Zisha Hongni (red), Mo lüni 墨绿泥 (green) and possibly Benshan lüni 本山绿泥 (sand) for the slip coating. The bottom has a Jin Ding (Golden vessel) commercial mark from Wu Deshen (the purple clay pottery company), established at Yixing in 1916. As a company, the mark was used under the bottom of commissioned works of art by artists. Many famous Yixing artists such as Li Baozhen, Feng Guilin, Yu Guoliang and Zhu Kexin, etc. were commissioned by the company. The company closed down by the start of the Sino-Japanese war in 1937, and the use of company's mark ended in 1939. Dimension (approx.): H25,8 x W13,5 cm Condition: In excellent condition. No damage!
