Luristan Bronze Spydspids med rottehaletang (Ingen mindstepris)

A Luristan Bronze spearhead with a small 'rat tail' hook on the end of a long tang. The blade itself is triangular in shape and has a slightly raised, flat, central rib. The are some small chips to the edge of the blade. There is an attractive green patina over the surface of the piece. Luristan bronzes come from the province of Lorestan, located in modern day Iran. Luristan weapons, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased. Excavated items from this region often include weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Ornamental objects are also frequently found, such as pins and bracelets. Archaeological evidence suggests that the Luristan bronze objects often serverd ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts. Weapons, such as this nice example, would have been used in everyday life but also buried together with the deceased. Measurements: L 26.8cm x W 3.1cm Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
