Northern coastal desert area.
Figural vessel depicting a llama, lying on the ground, its legs folded.
On it’s back is a man reclining on his stomach on top of a saddle bag.
As described in most literature the man is probably drunk, because he is not only lying in a quite unusual place, but he is also riding the llama backwards.
Time period: ca. 450 - 700 AD
Moche style period IV
Dimensions: 23 cm high - 21 cm wide
Provenance: purchased at auction in Tel Aviv.
With Israeli export license (see copy)
Former Kemper Collection, Switzerland, created between 1940's and 1980's
Kemper collection number K284 at bottom.
Donated to "The Museum of Islamic Art", Jerusalem, during 1970's.
Purchased by well known collector Yossef Maiman 1991.
