Queen – The Works Limited 1st Press The Works is the eleventh studio album by British rock band Queen. It was released by EMI Records on February 27, 1984, shortly after recording for the album in the United Kingdom was completed, and is the band's first studio album to be released by Capitol Records in the United States. After the synth-heavy Hot Space (1982), the album reemerged the rock sound of Brian May and Roger Taylor, while continuing to embrace the retro-futuristic electronic music of the early '80s (Freddie Mercury) and the New York funk scene (John Deacon). Later in the decade, after a negative reaction to the music video for "I Want to Break Free" in the United States, the band decided not to tour North America and lost the top spot in US sales, but sales around the world would be much better, especially in Europe. Although it did not reach number one, it stayed in the UK Albums Chart for 94 weeks, the longest for a Queen studio album. The Works has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.
