Mayakovsky, - Владимир Ильич Ленин - 1924

Mayakovsky, V. Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Poem. M.; L.: GIZ, 1927. 127, [5] p. 13.5×10 cm. In publisher's cover. The poem “Vladimir Ilyich Lenin” was written in 1924; it was the completion of Mayakovsky’s long work on the Lenin theme. The first poem about the leader is “Vladimir Ilyich!” — was written by Mayakovsky in April 1920, on the 50th anniversary of the leader. In the autobiography “I Myself,” under the date “23rd year,” there is a laconic entry: “I began to think about the poem “Lenin.” On October 18, 1924, Mayakovsky read the poem in the Moscow House of Press, on October 21 - in the Red Hall of the MK RCP (b) to the party activists. After Moscow, Mayakovsky gave a reading of the poem in workers' and party audiences in Kyiv, Minsk, Smolensk and other cities. “I finished the poem “Lenin”. I read it at many workers’ meetings... The attitude of the working audience delighted and confirmed the need for the poem,” Mayakovsky later wrote in his autobiography “I Myself.”
