Ancient Roman Bronze Panther Protome - Superb! Circa 1st-2nd century AD This impressive hollow bronze protome captures the upper body of a panther with remarkable detail. The forelegs are extended. The body is adorned with incisions imitating the texture of fur. The head features recesses for the eyes, while the open mouth adds a sense of ferocity to the piece. A protome refers to a sculptural fragment depicting the front portion of an animal or human figure.
