When he was 16 years old in 1941, he studied woodworking with Yokichi Suzuki of Naruko at Tohoku Kogei Igarashi Woodworks in Nametsu. The company closed in 1945 and opened its own business in 1955. They had been making new types for a while, but around 1971 they started making traditional Yokichi-shaped kokeshi dolls. Opened Chojiro Kojima Kokeshi shop in Haramichishita, Shichikashuku-cho.
