Indusdalen Terrakotta Dekoreret fartøj (Ingen mindstepris)

A finely potted Indus Valley terracotta vessel featuring a globular body which narrows slightly at a short neck and opens at the top into a flared large mouth. The main register features a frieze of alternating wild cat and boar motifs in dark pigment. This register is framed on the top and bottom with two sets of thick horizontal bands with an undulating line in the middle. Earthly encrustations to the surface. Some surface scratches and minor chips consistent with age. The Indus Valley Civilisation extended from what today is North East Afghanistan to Pakistan and North West India. It was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. Measurements: Circa H 14cm x W 13cm Provenance: From the David Gold (deceased) collection, 1970’s.
