Large "heavy duty" lifting pulley system including the original jute rope. The roller on the inside and the hook are made of heavy quality cast iron. Handmade around the 1800's by nautic craftsmen. These large and very decorative lifting pulley's are becoming increasingly rare. Provenance: comes out of a medieval canal house from the old city centre of Delft (Netherlands). These Former warehouses were built in the heyday of the Dutch East India Company. This pulley was mounted in the ridge of the bell gable to lift large goods in these spice warehouses. The pulley system is still in the original and unrestored condition. The handcrafted metal is robust and solid.
