Georgian portrait silhouette miniature of a middle-aged woman, in profile to left. Skillfully painted on card in black and shades of grey with highlights in Chinese white, this silhouette shows a graceful lady in a dress with puff sleeves accented with bows. Her upswept hair is peeking out from under bonnet as her veil cascades down over her chest. The silhouette is set in a traditional papier-mâché frame with an oval glass centre that is trimmed with gilded brass. The top of the frame has an ornate gilded hook in the shape of an acorn. On the back, there is an inscription which reads: Mary Schofield née Roberts Mother of SKS _unintelligeble_ Gr Grandmother of RS and HDS Origin: England Date: 1820's 14.2 x 12.2 x 0.8 cm frame 8.5 x 6.8 cm image Good antique condition. Wear to gilt; chips to frame edge; some crazing to frame.
