Petrus Albinus / Georgius Agricola - Meißnische Bergk-Chronica or Meissen Mountain Chronicle - 1590

RARE 1590 FIRST EDITION about mining, chemistry, metallurgy by Petrus Albinus or Peter von Weiße (1543–1598), was a professor in Wittenberg in Germany and famous for being known as the father of Saxon historiography. This "Meißnische Bergk-Chronica" or "Meissen Mountain Chronicle" is the volume two and one of the most important and earliest German mining regulations. It is the result of numerous travels and regional research and also contains a number of metallurgical chemical news and a detailed report on mining in Saxony and other German regions crossed by the two rivers Elbe and Saale. The large number of mineralogical information is largely based on the results of Georgius Agricola (1494-1555) and served as a source for science for centuries. In this book there is also the history of some Saxon families, and various events in Saxony of that time. Title: Meißnische Bergk-Chronica: darinnen fürnemlich von den Bergkwercken des Landes zu Meissen gehandelt wird...(Meissen Mountain Chronicle: which deals primarily with the mines in the Meissen region...), Published in Dresden, MDXC (1590). Text in German and Latin. References: Hoover 43; VD16 W1678-79; Ferchl 6; Graesse I, 59; Poggendorff I, 24; ADB I, 223 und IX, 195 (Gimel Bergen); NDB I, 151; Koch, Bergmännisches Schrifttum Nr. 11 und S. 49; Franz Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1875), "Albinus, Petrus", Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie, vol. 1, Leipzig: Duncker & Humblot, p. 223; Reinhardt Eigenwill: Petrus Albinus (Peter von Weiße), in: Sächsische Biografie. Published by the Institute for Saxon History and Folk Art, revised by Martina Schattkowsky. Description: 1 volume in FOLIO size: H 300 x W 205 mm or 11.8 by 8.1 inches. 4 unnumbered leaves for title and introduction + 205 pages for text + 3 unnumbered leaves for register. Antique half leather hardcover, solid and in good condition, with traces of wear on the corners, edges and boards. Paper browned throughout and with full original wide margins, in very good condition, minor blemishes to be expected with prints of this age (434 years). The photos are very accurate, so please review carefully. Author: Petrus Albinus also known as Peter von Weiße (1543–1598) was a professor at Wittenberg in Germany and is known as the father of Saxon historiography. Although his research does not meet current scientific standards, his works qualify him as the father of Saxon local history, local history research and historiography. In Wittenberg he took over the task of completing the history of Upper Saxony and the House of Wettin begun by Georg Fabricius. For example, in 1579, he indexed the letters and documents of the Bishopric of Meissen. From 1579 to 1588 he was a dean of the University of Wittenberg; in 1586 he took over as Rector and worked until 1588 in Wittenberg. In 1588, Albinus was called to Dresden to be appointed as secretary to Prince-Elector Christian I of Saxony, where he took oversight of all the documents of the Saxon royal house. Author: Georgius Agricola also known as Georg Bauer (1494-1555) was a German Humanist scholar, mineralogist and metallurgist. Born in the small town of Glauchau, in the Electorate of Saxony of the Holy Roman Empire, he was broadly educated, but took a particular interest in the mining and refining of metals. He was the first to drop the Arabic definite article al-, exclusively writing chymia and chymista in describing activity that we today would characterize as chemical or alchemical, giving chemistry its modern name. For his groundbreaking work De Natura Fossilium published in 1546, he is generally referred to as the Father of Mineralogy and the founder of geology as a scientific discipline. He is well known for his pioneering work De re metallica libri XII, that was published in 1556, one year after his death. Shipping: via UPS, DHL, National Postal Services, protected, INSURED and fully tracked package. Estimated time for Europe 3-5 working days.
