Oldtidens Egypten Fajance Bes Amulet (Ingen mindstepris)
A fine Ancient Egyptian faience amulet depicting the dwarf god Bes. The god is depicted in typical position, facing forwards with hands on the hips and wearing a plumed headdress. Bes was minor but widely worshipped god in the Egyptian pantheon, known as the protector of the household, women, children and childbirth, and additionally associated with sexuality, humour, music and dancing. He was also seen as the protector of all things good and the destroyer of evil.
Egyptian faience was widely used for small objects from beads to small statues, and is found in both elite and popular contexts. It was the most common material for scarabs and other forms of amulets and was used in most forms of ancient Egyptian jewellery, as the glaze made it smooth against the skin.
