Oldtidens Kina, Ming-dynasti Keramikrytter til hest (Ingen mindstepris)

Ming Dynasty Pottery Rider on Horse Circa 14th-17th century AD Finely detailed glazed pottery figure of a rider sitting on horseback. The horse assumes a standing pose with its head facing forward; positioned on a rectangular-shaped base integrated with the animal. It features a neat mane, large eyes, and an open-mouthed expression resembling a grimace, complemented by a bridle, harness, black-painted hooves, and a tail gracefully wrapped around its hindleg. In the saddle sits an upright rider wearing a long outer robe and holding a large bucket. The rider with a removable head, wears a cone-shaped hat and reveals detailed facial features, including narrow eyes, a prominent nose, and small lips highlighted in red. The unglazed areas are meticulously covered with pigmented colours. Mingqi were burial goods crafted to accompany the deceased in the afterlife. Such artefacts, including this finely detailed figure, symbolized protection and served as a tangible connection to earthly life in the spiritual realm. Cf. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 47.69.2. Dimensions: 275mm x 210mm; weight 1.36kg Provenance: Private UK Ancient Art Collection formerly acquired on the UK, European, and USA Art Markets from pre-2000 Collections.
