Antique Régence Chess Pieces
A beautiful piece of chess history from the late 18th / early 19th century! These chess pieces are expertly crafted from wood. Especially the knights are beautifully carved. Characteristic of this period are the vase-shaped "bellies" of the King and Queen. In addition, it is very characteristic that the bishops have notches on the top ring. This was the influence of the Enlightenment, to make it clear that the influence of the church waned, see detailed pictures.
Regence chess pieces were popular from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, until the Staunton chess pieces were becoming the standard pieces.
The chess set is complete and all chess pieces are in original condition. The knights on the white and black side have some signs of wear, see the many detailed pictures. Also known for that time is that the knights only have manes on one side. The chessboard in the pictures is only depicted for decorative purposes and is not part of the lot.
The height of the king is no less than 9.2 cm and the total weight is 0.7 kg.
The lot will be well-packaged and shipped by registered mail.
