In vintage condition, five model S22 candleholders by the German designers Hans Nagel and Werner Stoff. Material is chrome plating with matte steel. All candleholders have been used before. These days the company is in Danish hands. Measurements (5 pieces, model S22): height 6.5 cm x diameter 10 cm. Background information: The STOFF Nagel candleholder is an icon of German design of the post-war period. Its history begins with the Nagel family, who lived in a small village near Cologne after the Second World War and who made their living with handmade ashtrays, vases and candleholders. Barely 20 years after the war ended, the then 35 year old Hans Nagel met architect and artist Werner Stoff in the Cologne design community. Nagel told Stoff he was struck with an idea whilst skiing in the Alps, when a sudden fall forced him to use his wrist to break it, creating three holes in the snow with his fingers. This was the start of their collaboration. The STOFF Nagel candleholder was successfully brought to market in the late sixties, earning the Nagel family world fame. After the candleholder had been unavailable for decades, it was reintroduced to the market using Hans Nagel's and Werner Stoff's original drawings (please view the final photo) by the Danish design company Just Right ApS/STOFF Copenhagen ApS. Condition in accordance with their age and use, like some small scratches, stains and patina formation on the chromed steel. Also, two candleholders no longer fit seamlessly as one of the legs has bent somewhat. The photos provide an accurate impression of the lot on offer.
