The Jambiya (Yambia) is an Arab dagger worn by the male population of Yemen. It has a short, slightly curved, blade and is, clearly visible, worn to a belt. In Yemen, most men wear them since their fourteenth year of life. Because the Jambiya is worn more as an ornament than as a weapon, it often has a richly decorated handle. The decoration of the handle determines the social status of the carrier. Jambiya are also used in traditional dances, where the dancers hold the dagger in their hand. This happens for example during weddings.
This Jambiya is lavishly decorated and has a horn handle
This Jambiya has a total length of 33.5 cm, length knife 31.5 cm
