A giant of the classic American Sci-Fi period, Richard Matheson is known the world over as an author and screenwriter. His first novel I Am Legend, was published in 1954 and would be adapted several times to the screen over several decades proving its timelessness.
The second of his novels, The Shrinking Man, was published 2 years later and was phenomenally successful immediately receiving a film adaptation. Since then this book has inspired countless screenwriters and directors.
Richard Matheson gave this copy of The Shrinking Man, in first edition and in excellent condition, to Stan Barets with a dedication and signature.
This copy came from the personal collection of Stan Barets, the famous founder of Temps Futurs, the French bookstore specializing in science fiction. Stan Barets was the editor-in-chief of Playboy and the first translator of Katsuhiro Ōtomo’s Akira. He also contributed to the following major magazines of the genre: Fiction, Univers, Science-Fiction magazine and Métal Hurlant and directed Circus and Vécu at Glénat.
