'A new type of chair, entirely in leather'. This is how Mario Bellini describes his Cab chair-armchair, a best-seller designed in the golden era of Italian design and nowadays an iconic item from Cassina's 'I Contemporanei' (the Contemporaries) collection. Cab is the first chair in the world characterised by a self-supporting leather structure inspired by the relationship between the skeleton and the skin. Its upholstery is made of of 16 leather parts, punched one by one and then subjected to 14 manual processes. The individual cut parts are then sewn together only after having gone through a fleshing process aimed at reducing the thickness of the portions to be joined together. The upholstery is then hoisted on a steel skeleton and closed with zippers, like a dress. The colour of the chair is dark brown. Dimensions: H 82 cm, L 52 cm, P 47 cm N. B. The 4 chairs have only been used as display, and only one of them has a few marks.
