Info: The fat-bellied Buddha originates from China and is also called Pu-Tai in Chinese (Hotei in Japanese). According to legend, Pu-Tai Ho-Shang was a Chinese Zen master (monk) who travelled around China in a very happy and carefree manner to spread Buddhism. He was often surrounded by children and was honoured for his enormous joy and generosity, which also earned him his nickname "Happy Buddha". After his death he was revered as a folk hero, a God of fertility and bringer of happiness.
