Franklin Mint Collector’s Knives. Civil War Collection. This knife comes from the 12-part series "Civil War Collection" collector's knives. The battle of Brandy Station, Virginia, June 9, 1863 with Major General J.E.B. Stuart. 24 Carat gold-plated and silver-plated and blue, red and white enamel. Very, very good condition. James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart (February 6, 1833 – May 12, 1864) was a United States Army officer from Virginia who became a Confederate States Army general during the American Civil War. He was known to his friends as "Jeb", from the initials of his given names. Stuart was a cavalry commander known for his mastery of reconnaissance and the use of cavalry in support of offensive operations. In July 1862, Stuart was put in command of the entire cavalry of the Army of Northern Virginia. During the Battle of Yellow Tavern in 1864, a clash between the Confederate cavalry and that of the Northern General Philip Sheridan, Stuart was killed at the age of 31. On the front of the knife is an image of Major General J.E.B. Stuart. The image has a 24 carat gold-plated frame. Both above and below one can see two blue enamel borders with white enamel stars. At the top of the blade is the flag of the Confedered States in red and blue enamel. The metal handle is completely silver-plated, with a few 24 carat gold-plated parts. On the bottom of the handle is a little 24-carat gold-plated plate with the letters C.S., it stands for Confederate States. The 24 carat gold-plated coin of Franklin Mint Collector Knives is inlaid on the back. On the blade is printed: The battle of Brandy Station, Virginia, June 9, 1863. The blade is made of stainless steel with a special coating to prevent stains. Length of the knife unfolded 18 cm. Length of the knife folded 11.0 cm. Please see the photos for further description.
