Very little is known from the life of Meynert Pietersz Voskuyl. He was probably a brother of the painter Huygh Pietersz. Several of Voskuyl's verses are included in Venus Minne-gifjens, a songbook that saw the light of day in or after 1622 in Amsterdam. Other verses of him are found in Hollands Nachtegaeltien. Voskuyl's songs, which are almost all of an amorous nature, carry his motto: 't Verkeert haest; zij leeren ons niets van zijne levensgeschiedenis.

Two dramas by Voskuyl, Bellaria and Pandostos and Dorastus and Faunia, which belong together, are taken from the same source as Shakespeare's Winter's Tale, namely from a novella by Robert Greene, entitled Pandosto. The Triumph of Time. Wherein is discovered by a pleasant Historie, that although by the meanes of sinister fortune, Truth may be concealed, yet by Time in spight of fortune it is most manifestly revealed. Pleasant for age to auoyde drowsie thoughtes, profitable for youth to eschue other wanton pastimes, and bringing to both a desired content.
