Swiss author, physician and alchemist. He worked as a doctor from 1566 and wrote a number of works about medicine.
His antidotes constitute an enormous pharmaceutical work, offering recipes for distilling, numerous remedies, cosmetics and perfumes. The work includes ‘recipes for the treatment of syphilis’.
Doubtless fleeing accusations of sorcery, Wecker moved to Basel after having published Les Secrets de Wecker. For a number of years, he worked as a professor of logic at the local university.
He published Antidotarum generale, a work about alchemy. His work is known for the elaborate bibliography on chemistry-alchemy. He also reported the first known case of diphallia.
Pages: 14 + 111 + 8 + 605 + 29, 4 pages are missing (columns 172-181 of the 1st ‘generale’ book). After inspecting it carefully with a magnifying lens, my conclusion is that it was a printing error. They weren't ripped out, they just weren't inserted. Otherwise, it is complete.
Work in relatively good condition. Some stains and foxing, as shown in the photos. Well decorated.
The book had some lagoons and needed a restoration. The most important lagoons have been restored. The rest of the minor lagoons and tears have been left for a 2nd stage. There is an inventory of repairs available to anyone interested. (Restored in June 2021).
I am happy to answer any question from bidders in Spanish or English.
