Clochemerle is a French satirical novel by Gabriel Chevallier, published in 1934, which was an immediate and lasting success, with a print run of several million copies and translated into twenty-six languages. The book was awarded the Courteline Prize in 1934.

The novel begins when Barthélemy Piéchut, the mayor of the commune of Clochemerle-en-Beaujolais, reveals his project to Ernest Tafardel, the teacher: "I want to build a urinal, Tafardel.” [...] “Well," he says, "a pissoir!"

Illustrated softcover with flaps and slipcase.

A very lovely copy, very clean binding, impeccable inside, uncut pages. Sound slipcase, rubbed angles.
