Rare and original manuscript leaf on vellum (parchment), from a Dutch book of hours from c. 1420 - fully handwritten in Gothic script, text in one column of 20 lines and classic initial and border decorations from that time - In Dutch, which is in contrast to the more common Latin. The famous Dutch religious scholar Gerard Groote (1340-1384), founder of the Brethren of the Common Life and key figure in the Devotio Moderna movement, was the great initiator of the translation of Latin texts into Middle Dutch.
Condition: fine - bright and crisp vellum - there are two small pieces of acid-free tape on one edge - the colours are very well preserved and the gilt parts are very bright - in perfect condition, considering the age of more than 600 years.
Unique and rich piece from the Middle Ages, written in Middle Dutch.
This is an original 15th-century Dutch piece, double-sided and completely handwritten, not printed. Written with dark brown and red ink and with beautiful red and blue initials, and illuminated with one large gilt initial, and beautifully gilt-heightened decorative embellishments.
The manuscript will be sent by registered mail.
