a pair of French wall lights by Boris Lacroix - Wandlampe - Glas, vergoldete Bronze

JEAN BORIS LACROIX A beautiful pair of French art deco double wall sconces made around 1935-1940 in solid brass or bronze and clear frosted molded-pressed glass. They are designed by Boris Lacroix. Boris Lacroix (1902-1984) was the illegitimate son of the eccentric playboy grand duke Boris Vladimirovitch, the brother of the Russian tsar Alexander the 3rd, and Jeanne Aumont-Lacroix. Boris Lacroix was an architect and designer. At the age of 18 he began as draftsman in the manufactory of Paul Dumas. In 1924 he started to work for the fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet. Where he later became the artistic director. He left la maison Vionnet in 1937. Around 1926 onwards he designed lamps as well. They were first presented to the public at the 1927 Salon des artistes décorateurs. He signed his pieces with the monogram LA+. In the mid 30s he made a serial of chandeliers and sconces depicting the theme of birds seashells seahorses and mermaids. The chandeliers were made in high volumes and are frequently on the market. Wall sconces of Boris Lacroix are a rare find. The mountings for the chandeliers wall lights and table lamps Lacroix designed were produced by Petitot. The glass shades in pressed or sometimes opalescent glass were made by Ezan the factories of Etablissement Jean Gauthier. Some of the shades specially made for Lacroix were signed with the LA+ Boris Lacroix signature ('croix' means cross in French). In the old Lacroix product catalog, we can see two sconces in almost similar design but with shades in fabric. The sconces on offer hold four signed Ezan cups in clear frosted molded pressed glass. The diameter of the shades is 20cm. The wall lights are 21,5 cm high and 47 cm long. They project 24 cm from the wall. They are in excellent condition. I rewired them with four American candelabra base sockets. For European countries I will place E14 ones and I will add two good quality LED bulbs to the parcel. Safe packaging guaranteed: As specialized restorer of French art Deco lighting for over 20 years I ship my parcels worldwide with the fragile items well protected and fully insured. Having custom made wiring I can accept no returns. #mobwife #roaringtwenties
