Post Vlisco Wall Tapestry: Burning blossom 'Lilac'.
Simone Post selected the most beautiful colours for this unique flower piece. This piece was also on show at the Kunstrai in Amsterdam.
Simone Post makes unique pieces using her own developed folding and cutting techniques from the rejected material of textile producer Vlisco. Each wall tapestry is made by hand in her studio in Rotterdam and is therefore always unique.
A new nature emerges in the form of a seasonal flower field wall tapestry, pleated from discarded cotton textile waste. Could this amalgamation of discarded beauty be the last vestige of nature, considering that the cotton itself was once part of the natural world? As the remnants of blooms transform into an artificial field, we are left contemplating the potential of this new-age nature, where what was once natural returns in an symbolic form, inviting us to reassess our ecological impact and embrace the spirit of renewal instead of draining creation.
About Post
Simone Post (*1990, Utrecht, the Netherlands) is a multidisciplinary maker with roots in textiles, based in Rotterdam. Growing up, she was surrounded by sewing machines to play around with as her mother conducted sewing classes at home. She graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with honors in 2015. Simone’s atelier serves as a sanctuary for experimentation and creation with textiles as her ultimate muse.
This can find it’s materialisation in various outcomes, such as refurbished and ‘reupholstered’ knob chairs, alienating soft cabinets, pleated ceramics or marshmallow twisted window frames. Post’s work delves deep into color, texture, and print. Her works breath colour and optimism but at the same time are always asking substantive questions. Her work is a testament to the potential of materials, demonstrating that with dedication, craftsmanship, and a sense of wonder, it’s possible to turn seemingly ordinary materials into something extraordinary.
She has a portfolio of projects, collaborating with esteemed companies such as Vlisco, Kvadrat, Adidas, and Hermès, yet she is ultimately driven by a profound inner compulsion to create her own highly coveted objects
Her work has been exhibited worldwide from Brasil, China, Italy, India, US, Europe and has been acquired by multiple museums, including the Vitra Design Museum, Weil am Rhein, the Centraal Museum, Utrecht, MAD Paris and the Cooper Hewitt, New York.
