1995 Chateau Lynch Bages & 1995 Chateau Rauzan Segla - Margaux, Pauillac 2ème Grand Cru Classé - 2 Flaschen (0,75 l)

Château Lynch-Bages is a winery in the Pauillac appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. Château Lynch-Bages is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.[1] Located on the outskirts of Pauillac, on one of the town’s most beautiful hilltops and overlooking the Gironde estuary, Château Lynch-Bages owes its name partly to the very old hamlet of Bages and partly to the Lynch family (of Irish descent), which looked after the estate’s destiny from the eighteenth century onwards. Bought by the Cazes family in 1934 and already highly renowned, Lynch Bages took a further step forwards when Jean-Michel Cazes arrived at the helm in 1974. Jean-Michel Cazes invested all his energy, talent and charisma in promoting the estate whose quality and reputation he further enhanced. However, he was to become the tireless ambassador not just for his own wine but for Bordeaux and for the whole French wine industry, travelling worldwide to meet an ever increasing circle of passionate wine enthusiasts. In 2006 he handed over the running of the estate to his son Jean-Charles who continues to maintain its high standards. Professional reviews ROBERT PARKER (90) This wine was consistently outstanding from cask, and I suspect it may eventually merit an even higher score, but it was totally closed when I saw it in November. Unfortunately, it was one of the few wines that I was only able to taste once after bottling. Nevertheless, it is a classic vin de garde, with a saturated ruby/purple color, and a tight but promising nose of sweet plum and cassis fruit intertwined with underbrush, vanillin, and licorice scents. The wine is ripe, medium to full-bodied, and rich, as well as unyielding, ferociously tannic, pure, and layered. The finish is extremely dry (sec, as the French would say), with a brooding angularity and toughness. In spite of this, my instincts suggest the requisite depth is present to balance out the structure. This effort will also require a decade of cellaring. Château Rauzan-Ségla, or Château Rausan-Ségla, is a winery in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. Château Rauzan-Ségla is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The alternate name "Rausan-Ségla" was also frequently used until 1994 when the original "Rauzan-Ségla" again became the official name.[1] WINESPECTATOR (93)
