Cameo Deluxe SG by Sakai c.a. 1968 This guitar was built by Sakai Mokko which was a smaller builder in the Nagoya district of Japan. They are often confused with Teisco and Kawai since they used similar hardware and build techniques. This example has the classic Sakai redburst finish. The clearcoat has stress cracks but the finish is tight. The body has a few scrapes and dings but overall is quite clean for a guitar of it’s age. Bound rosewood fretboard and a truss rod. *The neck is slightly warped and the action gets higher as you go up the fretboard, still playable but action is med-high above the 10th fret. I have adjusted the truss rod as far as it will go. It is acceptable to play but if you want it to be perfect it will likely need the fretboard to be removed, neck replaned flat, and fretboard reinstalled to be perfectly straight. You can play it as is, Play slide on it, or take on the project of straightening the neck if you want low action.* The pickups are exactly what you want in a budget Japanese guitar of the 60’s, warm and articulate when played clean and raunchy but not muddy when distorted. Eqquiped with new strings. Will be packed very carefully.
