A very fine antique 4/4 violin, labeled Io Bap. Rogerius Bon Nicolai Amati de Cremona alumnus Brixiae fecit Anno Domini 1701. The instrument is in ready to play condition with two old small repairs on the scroll, old & good rosewood set up, old master made bridge and Dominant strings. The violin has high to medium grained spruce of the top and one piece back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. The back was fixed with 3 wooden nails. The inlaid purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden brown varnish. The scroll is after Maggini (Brescia). The one piece maple back measures 362 mm. The total length of the violin is 597 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 165 mm; middle bouts: 114 mm; lower bouts: 200 mm. The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
