"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, who was and who is to come" Pantokrator is the earliest and primary icon of Christ in Christianity, representing the Savior as Heavenly King and Judge. This image of the Savior most fully reveals His divine and human nature. Jesus Almighty is depicted frontally, dressed in a cloak without external attributes of divine dignity. The Savior's right hand is raised in blessing. The left hand points to a wound on the left side, in the area of the heart, which symbolizes the pain that Jesus endured because of the sins of the people. A nimbus with a cross painted on it forms the face of Christ, and in it are placed the letters IC and XC, representing the Christogram ICXC (Jesus Christ). This image traditionally occupies the space of the central dome of the Orthodox church.
