A very uncommon 1950s Italian vase possibly by Aldo Londi for Bitossi. Very handsome alternating bands and pattern black and green glaze over a hand-incised brown pottery body. Bands are notable for their crisp, clean edges. Lip and interior are glazed in glossy dark chocolate brown. Though mid-century in origin, it would also look right at home in a contemporary-styled interior. Underside glazed green and marked by hand “462/18” and “Italy”. Height: 18 cm, diameter: 8 cm Condition: Good Wear consistent with age and use. In very good vintage condition. In 1946 Londi joined the Cav. G. Bitossi & Figli factory, a happy association that would see him as a protagonist for more than fifty years, first as artistic director, then as a tireless collaborator.Londi merges tradition and contemporaneity to create a modern product. His natural inclination to research allows him to undertake courageous explorations and define a new expressive language, stimulated by continuous technical and material experimentation.His ceramic expertise and artistic sensitivity were extraordinary qualities for the collaborations he undertook over the years with designers and architects such as: Ettore Sottsass, Remo Buti and many others.”
