Magnificent Art Deco porcelain sculpture of a male balinese “Sword Dancer” modelled by the famous artist Carl Werner (1895 - 1980) for Hutschenreuther Kunstabteilung Bavaria around 1940, in excellent condition. Depicted is a Balinese male dancer, who is adorned with ankle and wrist bracelets, wearing an elaborate headress, holding a sword above his head, and wearing a decorative loin cloth. This figurine is rare and hard to find, especially in this excellent to pristine condition. Carl Werner (1895-1980) studied in Weimar and joined Hutschenreuther in 1922 as a sculptor and technical director of the new art department. He is acknowledged as one of the leading German figurative sculptors for his studies of movement and the human body. Thanks to Werner and Tutter, Hutschenreuther produced some of the most desirable Art Deco figurines made in Germany.
