Catawiki is an online marketplace. We connect buyers and sellers of special objects through expert-curated auctions and secure payment handling.
We do not sell objects ourselves. Every object you buy on Catawiki is sold by a third-party seller, either a private or professional user.
To help you understand how responsibilities are divided, here’s a breakdown of what we do and what sellers do.
What Catawiki takes care of
We provide the online environment in which auctions take place. This (generally) includes:
- Reviewing and selecting objects submitted by sellers.
- Facilitating secure payments and refunds.
- Operating the online marketplace infrastructure (e.g. search, listing display, and promotion).
- Supporting communication and dispute resolution between buyers and sellers.
What the seller is responsible for
Every seller on Catawiki, whether private or professional, is responsible for:
- Describing and listing the object truthfully.
- Setting the reserve price and shipping costs.
- Packaging and shipping the object to the buyer.
- Meeting all legal obligations under the contract of sale.
- Complying with the laws that apply to their listings.
- Ensuring the object is lawful, authentic, and in the condition described.
Where relevant, Catawiki helps display information about the right of withdrawal, warranty rights, or the seller’s professional status.
What buyers should know
When you place the winning bid or otherwise complete a purchase, you enter into a contract directly with the seller.
If the seller is a professional, you may be entitled to consumer protections, such as the right of withdrawal.
You can see whether a seller is professional or private on the object page and seller profile.
