Beautifully carved Mwana Pwo Mask from the CHOKWE tribe of Angola. The hairdo made of fibres clearly covers the mask. Their is a wide hairband above the face. The cross pattern on the forehead (chingelyengely) is carved in the wood. This cross motif pattern can often be seen on these kind of masks. There are tears under the eyes (masoji), they go to the ears. Small teeth in a nicely shaped mouth. The mask is on a solid metal stand, which is included. Materials: wood, fibre, textile, pigment.
