Papal distinction - Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice - introduced in 1888 by Pope Leo XIII

In good condition with minor signs of use. The box has areas of wear (see photos). Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Latin, for Church and Pope) was a papal award for services rendered to the Roman Catholic Church or the Roman Catholic faith. The award was introduced by Pope Leo XIII on 17 July 1888 on the occasion of his 50-year anniversary as a priest. The award was originally made of bronze, silver and gold, but in 1908 Pope Pius X determined that the medal would be awarded only in gold. The old cross was a cross fleury with lilies in the arms of the cross. In the middle there was a small circular medallion with the portrait of Pope Leo XIII within a ring with the words "" Leo XIII P. M. Anno X". The cross was introduced in the tenth year of his pontificate. The reverse side bears the crest of Pope Leo XIII with the words "Pro Deo et Pontifice" [2]. The arms on the reverse side presented four comets that, along with the lilies, appear on the coat of arms of the noble family of the Pecci, the family from which Pope Leo XIII descended. This lot will be packaged carefully and sent by registered mail, pick up is also possible in Geldrop, the Netherlands.
