Old "Carrot" - the sign for tobacconists in the 1950s. France. In good condition with no dents. Original paint showing some marks and scratches from wear over time. The bracket is missing. Dimensions: height 82 cm, max. diameter 19 cm. Packaged with care and shipped with track & trace This red lozenge shaped sign was fixed on each tobacco shop in France. This was required since 1906. In fact, the term ‘carrot’ reminds of distant times, in the 16th century, where the merchant received the tobacco in the form of long dried and twisted leaves. He tied them up in the shape of carrots so he could grate or grind them according to the desires of tobacco snuff users.
