Jeanloup Sieff - Derrières - Paris, Contrejour, 1993 - 1st edition - 120 pp. - 94 images in duotone - Hardcover with dust jacket - 32.5 × 25 cm - Text in French. Condition: Fine; the dust jacket shows light signs of use. Jeanloup Sieff (1933-2000) was a French photographer, best known for his fashion photos, portraits, reportages, landscapes and nudes, mostly in black-and-white. Sieff’s parents were of Polish origin. He studied photography in Paris and Vevey. In 1954, he began working as a photojournalist and fashion photographer for Elle magazine. Later he also freelanced for Magnum Photos. From 1961 to 1966 he lived in New York, where he worked for well-known magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Paris Match. He then returned to Paris. Sieff also made his name as a portrait and art photographer. He worked mainly in black-and-white and mostly used a wide-angle lens. He attracted attention with his nudes, but also made a lot of dance and ballet photos. He liked to work with dancers because of their body control and the way they fill space. Sieff was awarded many times and was included in the French Legion of Honour in 1992. Today he is considered one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. Shipping: Registered.
