Looking for publicity, André Citroën soon became to understand the interest of advertising on road signs. He ordered the production of 150000 signs resembling road signs and these were placed free of charge in France as well as over seas. A specific service was established for the installation and maintenance of the road signs. The brand representatives had to motivate the mayors to get access to the best locations. In 1926, more than 12000 municipalities made use of these road signs. The 100,000th was set up in Savoie, in the small village of Lucey. In 1930, the initiative of André Citroen was recognised as a public utility. But a regulation limiting references to the donor to 10% of the surface of the panels put an end to this posting. Citroën preferred to hand it over to Michelin and the automobile club. A forerunner in many areas, André Citroen proves once again his visionary talent.
