A Napoleonic Infantry sword - AN XI Sabre Briquet - France - early 19th century
Description - A Napoleonic infantry short sword used during Napoleonic Wars slightly curved blade ricasso marked with poinçon crowned 'D' 'Remscheid' on the one side and 'Foucaud' on the other side, a brass hilt marked with number '117' 'ROI' 'T' and round poinçon comprising knuckle-guard extending to form a downcurved ball quillon, the ovoidal pommel-cap and a grip with 28 ribbs, blade manufactured by H. & R. Boker in Solingen-Remscheid-Prussia between 1809-1816 to supply French Napoleonic infantry, circa 1813.
The briquet was most probably used in the Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815) where was Napoleon defeated, many of the French arms and armory were taken to England considered as a trophies of the victory and remained in private collections.
Condition - good condition some light surface pitting, few small knocks to the blade commensurate with age, please see photos.
Dimensions - length sword 73.8cm, length blade 59.5cm, blade width 3.75cm, blade thickness 8mm, weight 1.12kg.
