Beautiful old Art Deco style tin Van Melle's - Confectionery Works Breskens - Holland

Beautiful old toffee tin of Van Melle, manufactured between 1925 and 1935. The tin has very beautiful images of various species of birds. High, three rectangular sides, front with expansion with rounded corners. Sloping hinged lid. Turquoise fond, gold rushes. Lid: in circle with yellow background national coat of arms under canopy. Front: bird of paradise on branch between leaves looking up. Left side: parrot looking back. Right side: peacock between leaves looking back. All birds are in a gold-coloured frame. Rear: octagon with black background in which a stylized cherub is blowing on musical instrument, placed against a gold-coloured vignette. Van Melle began around 1840 as a bakery in Breskens. This shop also sold sugar balls. In 1900 Izaak van Melle began to produce this machine as well. Around 1920 Izaaks brother Dirk-Machiel started a factory producing biscuits and wafers, including the Maria biscuit. Nowadays it exists under the name Perfetti Van Melle.
