The Sicilian cart (“carrettu” in Sicilian dialect) is a is an ornate horse-drawn cart, used all over Sicily from the 19th century to the second half of the 20th century, when it became obsolete, due to the increasing motorisation of the work in the countryside. Built with different qualities of wood, often adorned with bucolic carvings and gaudy decorations, nowadays has become a typical craft object, and one of the symbols of Sicilian folk iconography.
