2 large piano babies - Biscuit Porcelain

Two babies in biscuit ceramic. Middle of the 20th century. A large matching pair of babies, hand painted biscuit porcelain. Not marked, though likely of German origin and made in the middle of the 20th century. A baby girl in a pink outfit and a baby boy in a powder-blue outfit looking left and right, both lying or crawling on their belly. This type of sculptures are also referred to as ‘piano babies’. At the end of the 19th century your piano was a special item and to keep it free of dust, you would drape a shawl or oblong piece of fabric over it. A large porcelain baby was often used to keep that into place. Strange but true. In good condition, without damage or restorations. Both babies are approx. 25 x 12 x 14 cm. The lot will be thoroughly packaged and shipped with registration.
